Domaine du Haut Bourg

Domaine du Haut Bourg
Loire Valley, France
From cattle breeding to fine wines: The heritage of Choblet at the Domaine du Haut Bourg
Located south of Nantes in the heart of the Loire Valley, the Domaine du Haut Bourg winery is run by brothers Hervé and Nicolas Choblet, the fourth generation of the Choblet family. Their great-grandfather, a World War I veteran, converted the family business from livestock farming to producing exceptional dry white wines in the western Loire Valley in 1945.
This region is the heart of the Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu appellation, dedicated to white wines made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape variety, often referred to as Melon B or Melon. This grape variety is overshadowed by the more famous Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley. Muscadet is not to be confused with Muscat (Moscato), the slightly sweet wine from Piedmont. Melon B, on the other hand, produces crisp white wines characterized by citrus and apple notes, with a subtle hint of sea salt.
The Domaine du Haut Bourg winery boasts a diverse range of white wines, including the Muscadet Signature, which ages for six years in underground vats with lees, resulting in a complex blend of citrus, peach, and pear notes. The Sauvignon and Grolleau Gris varieties offer aromatic profiles with tropical fruits and floral undertones.
The Rosé Grolleau captivates with its aromas of red berries, while the Gamay offers a delightful blend of red and black fruits with a hint of spice.
These hidden gems are certified organic and offer Loire Valley lovers excellent value for money.
