Dominio Do Bibei

Dominio do Bibei
Ribeira Sacra, Spain
Reviving winemaking traditions in a remote and rugged landscape
Nestled among the steep slopes and rugged landscape of Ribeira Sacra lies Dominio do Bibei. This winery is located on remote, sacred land, originally inhabited by monks, lending a certain spiritual aura to the surrounding dramatic landscape.
Founded in 2002 and managed by Javier Domínguez, the Dominio do Bibei winery is one of those stories where a dream became reality. A group of friends, originally from the area but having moved far away, felt drawn to their homeland. Their goal was to revive the region's winemaking traditions, and so they set out to produce wines that express the unique character of the Bibei Valley.
Dominio do Bibei's vineyards are located at an altitude of 200 to 700 meters, allowing for a balance of freshness and acidity in their wines. They produce a range of white and red wines from local grape varieties, such as the more well-known Mencía, Godello, and Albariño. However, lesser-known native grape varieties such as Brancellao, Treixadura, and Mouratón are also cultivated, adding even more interest to Dominio do Bibei's excellent range.
If you're looking to venture outside your usual repertoire, this is a lovely exploration of lesser-known Spanish grapes from a team that puts the specialties of the Ribera Sacra front and center.
