Giró del Gorner
The Giró family has been growing grapes in Penedès since 1595. More than 400 years later, they are still here, farming their own vineyards and making wine from the grapes they grow.
The estate sits around 50 kilometres south of Barcelona, where the vineyards stretch across gentle limestone slopes. Warm Mediterranean days, plenty of sunshine and the influence of the nearby sea make this a natural place for growing grapes.
Everything at Giró del Gorner starts in their own vineyards. They don’t buy in fruit, so the family looks after the whole process from growing and harvesting the grapes through to making and bottling the wine. They are one of only a small number of wineries recognised as an Integral Producer within DO Cava.
The vineyards have been certified organic since 2020, continuing the family’s long connection with the land while looking after it for the generations to come.
Xarel·lo is an important part of what they do. It’s one of Catalonia’s traditional grapes and is best known for its role in Cava, but here you also get to see just how good it can be as a still wine.
La Serdalla keeps things fresh, bright and pure, while Els Garrofers uses oak and time on the lees to bring out a richer, more textured side of the same grape.
Two very different wines, both rooted in the same vineyards and a family that has been working this land for more than four centuries.
