High-altitude excellence: small-batch wines in Ribera del Duero

At an impressive altitude of 900 meters in Ribera del Duero, you can discover Marta Maté, founded by Marta Castrillo and César Maté. Their journey began modestly in 2008 with a production of just 3,000 bottles. But their very first creation, Primordium, catapulted them into the spotlight with an impressive 95 Parker points. Since then, they have continued to grow and expand their collection of award-winning wines.

Marta and César embarked on this adventure with a clear vision: to produce outstanding wines in small batches from exceptional sites and with minimal intervention. Their Gumiel de Mercado vineyard, located in a small village in Ribera del Duero, is home to both old vines (some over a century old) and newer ones, and benefits from 16 different soil types.

Marta Maté specializes in Tempranillo, known in Ribera del Duero as Tinto Fino, and presents a variety of expressions and experiences. From the youthful, vibrant fruitiness of El Holgazán to the refined complexity of Marta Maté, Los Perejiles, and Primordium, each wine tells a unique story. Imagine ripe dark cherries, juicy blackberries, delicate violets, earthy spices, and velvety cocoa.

If you're a fan of Ribera del Duero or have a preference for Tempranillo, you'll find something to enjoy when exploring the range.

Marta Maté takes her commitment to winemaking seriously and practices biodynamic and organic farming. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure only the best makes it into each bottle. This is winemaking with a personal touch, and you'll notice it in every sip.
