Primordium DO Ribera del Duero 2013 75cl
Marta Maté is a modern success story, crafting outstanding small-batch wines with a minimalist approach. In a region of over 300 wineries, 85% of which rely on mechanical harvesting, Marta Maté decided to forge her own path. Her project is based on three core principles: prime site, biodiversity, and minimal intervention. Primordium is her very first wine, receiving 95 Parker points upon release. This wine has a deep garnet color with a rich ruby rim. Aromas of ripe blackberries, toasted oak, anise, lavender, and licorice transition seamlessly onto the palate, with a subtle hint of dark chocolate. An elegant and balanced wine, balancing robust tannins and refreshing acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested from the Gumiel de Mercado vineyard on chalky, stony soil at an altitude of 910 m. Biodynamic farming is practiced, with horses working the soil instead of heavy machinery. In the winery, only the finest grapes were individually selected on the sorting table. The grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged for 19 months in 300-liter French oak barrels, blended, and then aged again in 2,300-liter French oak barrels. Pairing: Very versatile. Goes well with meat, poultry, pizza, pasta, cheese, and cured meats.
