From engineer to winemaker: Pierre Emmanuel's journey to Bordeaux
On the right bank of the Dordogne River lies the Vignobles Pierre Emmanuel Janoueix winery. Led by Pierre Emmanuel Janoueix, this boutique winery specializes in Merlot in Bordeaux. The roots of this family business date back to 1898, when Jean Janoueix, Pierre's great-grandfather, transitioned from the wine trade to the art of viticulture.
Pierre Emmanuel initially took a different path, studying electrical engineering in Paris. However, the pull of the vineyards proved irresistible, so he abandoned his original career and embarked on a career in viticulture in 2000. More than two decades later, the depth and complexity of his wines are a clear reflection of his winemaking expertise.
A perfectionist and hard worker, Pierre Emmanuel transformed the entire operation. He oversaw the renovation of the vineyards and winery, and his tireless commitment to sustainability earned him certification from the French Ministry of Agriculture for high environmental standards.
Pierre Emmanuel's vineyards are located in various regions of Bordeaux. Chateau Pierhem, in Pomerol, produces a complex 100% Merlot wine from 60-year-old vines, full of red fruits, coffee, tobacco, and fine tannins. La Bastienne, in Montagne Saint-Émilion, is a 100% Merlot from 50-year-old vines, offering a lighter profile with black fruits, spices, and pronounced tannins.
The wines of Pierre Emmanuel, a quiet high-flyer, offer a truly individual expression of Merlot that can be enjoyed now or allowed to age for a few more years.
