Saeculare Etna Rosso Riserva DOC 2013 75cl
The Saeculare is an exquisite and exceptional Etna red wine, made from 250-year-old vines of the native Etna grapes – Nerello Mascalese 80% and Nerello Cappuccio 20%. This wine has a ruby red hue and delights the nose with a bouquet of ripe red fruits, underscored by delicate notes of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs. On the palate, the fruit reveals its perfect ripeness and harmonizes with subtle earthy undertones, lively acidity, and smooth tannins. The vineyard for the Saeculare is located at an altitude of 600 meters in Castiglione di Sicilia, Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. This vineyard, with 250-year-old vines, is composed of sandy and volcanic soils that are very rich in minerals. The grapes were harvested by hand, destemmed (80%), and crushed before fermentation in steel tanks, where they macerated for 12 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for at least three years in old oak barrels. The wine was then blended and bottled for another three years of rest and aging. Food pairings: meat, poultry, dishes with tomato sauce, oily fish, pasta, and cheese.
