Palazzo Tronconi
Lazio, Italy
One man's search for Italy's ancient grapes
In the heart of Lazio, beyond the bustling streets of Rome, lies the medieval hilltop town of Arce. Here, amidst this historic landscape, stands Palazzo Tronconi, where one man strives for authentic, local Italian wine.
In 2010, Marco Marrocco embarked on an extraordinary journey, taking over 3.5 hectares of his grandfather's vineyards. Armed with a background as an engineer and a relentless determination, he set out to revive old vines and produce authentic local wines. He immersed himself in his studies and, after graduating with a degree in oenology and gaining practical experience in Bordeaux, returned to Arce with a bold vision.
Palazzo Tronconi's wines are a delight for those seeking rare wines, unique flavors, and authentic local experiences. Italy boasts around 2,000 native grape varieties, yet only a handful are widely known.
Palazzo Tronconi's wines, such as the Zi'tore and the Móvecò, feature the local Lecinaro grape, with its cherry and spice notes. The Donnicò is made from the slightly darker Ulivello Nero grape variety and is characterized by a blend of cherry, plum, pepper, and chocolate.
The labels and names given to each wine contribute to their story and provide insight into the essence of Marco's project. They are a journey in themselves.
What makes Palazzo Tronconi even more impressive is its commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, as well as minimal intervention in winemaking. The wines are also suitable for vegans. In addition to the vineyards, Palazzo Tronconi also offers a boutique hotel and a restaurant, offering guests an immersive local experience. For more information, visit the company's website.
