Las Pedreras is the rising star in Spain’s most up and coming Sierra de Gredos, a mountainous region west of Madrid. Barbara Requejo Frutos is the young and gifted winemaker behind this boutique project, artfully displaying her expertise through the creation of elegant, high altitude wines.
Arquitón is the essence of the elegance and the minerality of Grenache at the Alto Alberche Valley. It unveils a bouquet dominated by white flowers, citrus and mineral notes, which extends to the palate offering a perfect balance of tannins and a lingering freshness.
The grapes were hand harvested from 25 different plots of old vines, averaging 70 years, on granitic sandy soil. Once at the winery, the grapes were pressed, then gently cold-settled for 24-48 hours before racking directly to the barrels for fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation took place followed by 6 months oak aging. The wine is unfiltered.
