Marta Maté is a modern success story, crafting outstanding small-batch wines with a minimalist approach. Amidst a region of over 300 wineries predominantly reliant on machine harvesting (85%), Marta Maté chose to stand apart. Their project embraced three core principles: Prime Location, Biodiversity, and Minimal Intervention.
El Holgazán entices with its cherry colour, vibrant aromas of ripe red and black berries with subtle hints of liquorice and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, it’s medium bodied with soft tannins and a fresh, lingering finish.
The grapes were hand harvested from ́el Holgazán, a cluster of vineyards at 920m altitude in the northernmost area of Ribera del Duero. The vineyards were planted between 1992 and 1996 on clay-sandy soil. Once at the winery, only the best grapes were selected and fermented using indigenous yeasts, and then aged for 7 months in 300L French oak barrels.
