Las Pedreras is a rising star in Spain and produces wines from both Sierra de Gredos and Ribera del Duero. Barbara Requejo Frutos is the young and gifted winemaker behind this boutique project, artfully displaying her expertise through the creation of elegant, high altitude wines.
La Coronela is from Ribera del Duero and is a fresh and balanced Tempranillo, dominated by dark fruit, liquorice and aromatic herbs. The palate is well structured, expansive and persistent, finishing with just a hint of balsamic notes and pepper.
The label of La Coronela says, "Dedicated to La Coronela: Generous. Brave. A Fighter." Coronela means "colonel", the nickname of Barbara’s Grandmother, whose vineyard is the source for this subtle and vibrant expression of a Ribera del Duero wine.
The grapes were hand harvested from 60 year old vines in Roa de Duero. Once at the winery, the grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts using 15% whole cluster and 45 days with skin. The wine was then directly racked into barrels for 10 months of oak aging. This wine is unfiltered.
