Agri Segretum crafts small-batch, terroir expressive wines from Umbria, specialising in indigenous grapes with minimal intervention.
Marmocchio, which translates to 'rascal,' perfectly encapsulates the mischievousness that characterises this big beauty. This is ‘rustic elegance’ in a glass, blending the elegant fruitiness of Sangiovese with the tannin-rich character of Sagrantino. What an adventure.
Marmocchio exhibits a dark ruby shade, enveloping the senses with lush red and black fruit aromas, accented by delicate hints of cedar, leather, and forest floor. On the palate, earthy undertones gracefully emerge, creating a harmonious interplay with the fruit, all elegantly supported by firm yet integrated tannins, leading to an incredibly long finish
The organically farmed vineyard for Marmocchio is located at 300 metres altitude in Todi, Umbria on limestone and clay soils. Sagrantino (Umbria’s indigenous ancient grape) and Sangiovese Grosso grapes reach full maturity at different times of harvest, so the two varieties were picked independently. The grapes were hand harvested, selected, and fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks for 30 days. After separation of the skins, the finished wine was transferred and aged for 15-18 months in 500L French oak barrels, followed by bottling and a further 15 months aging in the bottle. This wine is not fined, nor filtered.
