Marta Maté is a modern success story, crafting outstanding small-batch wines with a minimalist approach. Amidst a region of over 300 wineries predominantly reliant on machine harvesting (85%), Marta Maté chose to stand apart. Their project embraced three core principles: Prime Location, Biodiversity, and Minimal Intervention.

Primordium is their very first wine, which scored 95 Parker points upon release. This wine is a deep garnet shade with a rich ruby rim. Mature blackberries, toasted oak, anise, lavender, and liquorice aromas extend seamlessly to the palate, with a subtle touch of dark chocolate. An elegant and balanced wine, harmonising powerful tannins and refreshing acidity.

The grapes were hand harvested from the Gumiel de Mercado vineyard on limestone stony soil at 910 metres altitude.  Biodynamic farming is practiced, whereby horses work the soil rather than heavy machinery. Once at the winery, only the best grapes were selected ‘one by one’ on the selecting table. The grapes were fermented using indigenous yeasts, aged for 19 months in 300L French oak barrels, blended, and then aged again in 2,300L French oak casks.
