Saeculare is an exquisite and exceptional Etna red wine crafted from 250 year old vines of native Etna grapes - Nerello Mascalese 80% and Nerello Cappuccio 20%.
This wine is a ruby red shade and delights the nose with a bouquet of ripe red fruit, accented by delicate hints of leather, tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate, the fruit reveals its perfect ripeness, harmonising with subtle earthy undertones, lively acidity, and supple tannins.
The vineyard for Saeculare is located at 600 metres altitude, in Castiglione di Sicilia, Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. This vineyard contains vines that are 250 years old and comprises sandy and volcanic soils that are very rich in minerals. The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed (80%) and crushed before fermentation in steel vats, which included 12 days of maceration. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured for at least 3 years old oak barrels. The wine was then blended and bottled to rest and refine for another 3 years.
