Located in Cordunella de Montsant, the Catalonian region encircling Priorat, lies Companyia Vitícola Sileo. This is the second breakaway project from Agustí Torelló Sibill, led by his son, Agustí Torelló Roca, an accomplished oenologist. Similar to the AT Roca project, Sileo was established in 2012 with a goal to create wines that reflect the land.
‘Sileo’ is Latin for ‘to be still, silent’, a befitting name in this mystical area flanked by stunning mountains and a reservoir. Long, long ago, the Carthusian monks, who were dedicated to silence and contemplation, mapped, planted and cultivated the vineyards in the area. They paved the way for the successful region we see today, and Sileo celebrates their commitment and hard work.
Sileo’s vineyards are scattered around the area, occupying some of the highest elevations and possessing the most varied soil types in the Montsant region. Costers de Cordunella is a blend of Garnacha with Carignan, sourced from vineyards up to 85 years old. Esporreres, 100% Garnacha, is aptly named and sourced from the historic Esporreres vineyard, originally planted by the monks in the 12th century and replaced in 1986.
Sileo is organically farmed and fermented using indigenous yeasts, with no corrective actions. Each vintage is unique and a true reflection of the land.
