Marta Maté is a modern success story, crafting outstanding small-batch wines with a minimalist approach. Amidst a region of over 300 wineries predominantly reliant on machine harvesting (85%), Marta Maté chose to stand apart. Their project embraced three core principles: Prime Location, Biodiversity, and Minimal Intervention.
Viñas del Lago is an easy drinking wine from Ribera del Duero—it's lighter in body compared to typical Ribera del Duero wines, thanks to its blend of Tempranillo, Albillo and Garnacha grapes. The nose has red fruits with a soft, floral perfume. There's a nice blend of red and black cherries on the palate, with a touch of tannins.
The grapes were hand harvested from vines that are more than 100 years old. Once at the winery, only the best grapes were selected and were fermented using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine was then aged for 12 months French oak barrels with a final blending and aging afterwards in concrete tanks.
